After the big day, you’ll want to rest. But, there are a few things you still need to take care of the day after your wedding. Luckily most of these things are fairly minor and you may even be able to get some help from family and friends getting the job done.
Save Your Cake
If you are like most couples, you probably want to save the top tier of your wedding cake. Some wedding cake decorators, caterers or venue offering a packaging service – for an extra cost. But, if you don’t have time, you may want to hire them to package up the cake for you so you can save it. If not, you’ll want to do it yourself. These steps outline how to do it:
1. Remove flowers and decorative materials.
2. Chill the cake in the refrigerator for at least two hours. That will keep the frosting from sticking to the wrapping.
3. Wrap it in three layers of plastic wrap, one layer aluminum foil, then place it in a large plastic container.
While some cakes freeze and taste great, others do not. So if you really want a good tasting cake, consider just reordering the top tier from your wedding cake decorator.
Decide What You’ll Do with Your Bouquet
Some brides are just fine throwing out their bouquets, but if you are the type that wants to save it, you’ll need to do a few things immediately after the wedding. This task could be given to a bridesmaid or even a family member if you don’t think you will have time. There are also preservation companies that send you a kit. You’ll package up your bouquet, mail it to them, and they will ship it back preserved.
Take Care of the Dress
Most likely you will want to keep your wedding gown. Before storing it, make arrangements to have it cleaned. If you’re going on your honeymoon, have a friend or family member take it to a cleaner that you have prearranged services with. Make sure to only take your dress to a trusted cleaner who regularly cleans wedding gowns – not all dry cleaners are delicate. You can then preserve the dress when you get home – though you should not wait longer than six weeks to do so.
Get the Thank You Notes Out
This doesn’t have to be done the day after your wedding, but within the next few weeks. At least have a plan in place for when and how you will get the notes out – so you aren’t stressed on your honeymoon.
Relax
Even though you have stuff to do the day after your wedding, take some time to sit back, relax and enjoy all of the work you have already done.
