Every bride wants a perfect set of nails on her big day. After all, from the hair to the makeup to the dress – you want every detail that guests admire to be pristine. And, because everyone will be checking out the rings on that fourth finger, you really need to put some focus on your hands just like you do the rest of your body.
To get your hands picture-perfect, there are a few things you’ll want to do long before the wedding day arrives.
Get Professional Care – Weekly
Starting a few months before the wedding, start getting professional manicures at least once a week. If it is too much for the budget, at least go every other week or once a month. This will help your nails grow longer, cuticles even out and keep everything looking picture-ready.
Nourish from Within
The best looking nails come from within. Start drinking a mixture of orange juice and calcium mixed with Knox gelatin to help strengthen your nails from the inside out. Start this at least a month before the wedding to help improve your nails.
Base Coat
Underneath your nail polish, start using a nail-building base coat. These are found with the nail polishes and help strengthen the nail.
Quit Biting
Nail biting does not make for pretty nails. So, if you are a habitual nail biter, it is time to break the habit. Use a nail-biting nail polish. These are bitter and keep you from chewing on your nails – even in high-stress situations. Start using this at least 2 weeks prior to the wedding to repair any existing nail biting damage.
Wear Gloves
While cleaning or even doing the dishes, wear rubber gloves. This will protect your nails from any chemical degradation.
No Dish Soap
When washing your hands, use a hand soap or favorite shampoo. This will keep your hands and nails from drying out.
Lotion Up at Night
Buy a hand and nail cream specifically designed for night-time use. Then, apply and massage it in right before bedtime to prevent cracking. If you really want to see the full effects, wear cotton gloves over your hands to keep the lotion on the skin while you sleep.
Buff
Buff up your nails each night with a nail smoothing block. This will prevent any chips or splits.
Use Strengthening Polish
At least three times per week apply a strengthening polish. While these are pricey, they will strengthen your nails and help them grow faster.
Don’t Use Your Nails Like Tools
Instead of using your nails for everything, use scissors or bottle openers. Bottom line, don’t use your nails like tools – that will keep them strong and prevent any breakage.
